Sooryavanshi departs after 38 runs; Team India reach 88 runs in 10 overs
In the Asian Games 2026 semi-final match against Sri Lanka, Team India has reached the score of 88 runs for the loss of four wickets in 10 overs at the Aichi Prefectural Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin.
Having been put to bat first, Team India's swashbuckling Vaibhav Sooryavanshi smashed 38 runs off 21 balls. His knock was laced with six boundaries and two maximums. Fellow opening batsman Abhishek Sharma departed after scoring seven runs in three balls, including a maximum. Wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson also managed to score seven runs in nine balls, which included a boundary. Captain Shreyas Iyer was dismissed on 13 runs in 13 balls, including a boundary.
Ishan Kishan and Axar Patel are unbeaten at the crease.
Sri Lanka's Sahan Arachchige has claimed two wickets. Tharindu Rathnayake and Wanuja Sahan have bagged one wicket each. Binura Fernando and Vijayakanth Viyaskanth are yet to claim any wickets.
Earlier, Sri Lanka's skipper Sahan Arachchige won the toss and elected to bowl first against the "Men in Blue".
Team India's wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson said, "[Focusing on winning the gold medal?] We will try our maximum. Whatever we can do, we will try our maximum. [On how India have gone from strength to strength in cricket] I think it's all over the internet. It's a known fact nowadays how strong Indian cricket has grown over the last so many years. So I think there has been some constant effort. Definitely IPL plays a huge role, but I feel our domestic cricket is also playing a huge role actually. We have been constantly making great efforts to go out and play all the domestic matches whenever we get a chance, and that's where we tend to develop a lot of talents also. So our grooming teams are really nicely placed - actually the Mushtaq Ali, the Vijay Hazare, the Ranji Trophy. The Under-19 (teams) are traveling abroad every season. A great amount of cricketers are coming from (there). So which is a great thing for our country, and we will keep doing our best".
He then expressed his views on Team India's superstar Virat Kohli's 86th international century in the first ODI match against the West Indies.
"Very, very fortunate to have someone like him. I think whenever he scores runs, whenever we come out to practice, or how to play a game of cricket for our country, or wherever he does, it's a great inspiration for people like us still playing the game in the Indian national team, and everyone playing alongside with him. I think definitely benefits the way he puts on the performances. So I'm very happy," added Samson.

Aichi-Nagoya [Japan], October 1 (ANI): Indian wrestlers Mansi and Aman advanced to the quarterfinals in their respective events at the Asian Games 2026, while judoka Yamini Mourya also progressed to the last eight after impressive victories in their respective bouts here on Thursday.
Mansi, a former World Championships bronze medallist in the 59kg category, defeated Kazakhstan’s Irina Kuznetsova 6-1 in the women’s 62kg Round of 16.
Mansi, who had also beaten Kuznetsova earlier this year at the Budapest Ranking Series, remained in control throughout the bout and sealed a comfortable victory to book her place in the quarterfinals.
She will face South Korea’s Jo Su-been in the quarterfinal. Jo Su-been had previously contested the bronze-medal bout at the 2024 Asian Championships.
In men’s Greco-Roman wrestling, Aman produced a strong comeback to defeat Mongolia’s Borgil Tuvshinbaatar 8-6 in the 77kg Round of 16.
Aman found himself trailing 2-6 deep into the bout but staged a remarkable fightback, executing a series of rolls to turn the contest around and secure his place in the quarterfinals. He now faces a tough challenge against Qatar’s Asian champion Shahin Badaghimofrad in the quarterfinal.
Sumit Dalal, the reigning junior Asian champion, suffered a narrow defeat against Iran’s Sajjad Abbaspourragani in the men’s Greco-Roman 60kg quarterfinal. The bout ended 1-1, but Abbaspourragani was awarded the victory by VPO1. Despite the defeat, Sumit remains in contention for a place in the repechage, depending on his opponent’s progress in the competition.
Meanwhile, in judo, Yamini Mourya progressed to the women’s 57kg quarterfinals after defeating Qatar’s Fatena Bu-Qahoos by ippon. Yamini will take on Mongolia’s Ariunzaya Terbish in the quarterfinal as she looks to continue her run in the competition.

IND vs PAK Asian Games 2026 Live Streaming Info, Hockey Semifinal Match at Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium, Kakamigahara: When, Where, How to Watch India Vs Pakistan Live Score, TV Telecast Online
Asian Games 2026: Defending gold medallist India men hockey will take on arch-rivals Pakistan in a thrilling semifinal of the Asian Games 2026 at the Gifu Prefectural Green Stadium in Kakamigahara on Thursday. Harmanpreet Singh’s side will have to win the next two matches to retain their gold medal as well as secure a ticket to the Los Angeles Olympics 2028.
The second semifinal will be played between Malaysia and South Korea later on Thursday. After a forgettable FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 campaign last month, India men’s team – who finished in 7th place – have bounced back in Japan and maintained an unbeaten record on way to the semifinals of the Asian Games 2026 so far.
The Paris Olympics 2024 bronze medallist finished on top of Pool A with five wins in five matches. They with a 13-1 victory over Indonesia, followed by a 16-1 win over Sri Lanka. India then produced an 8-2 hammering of semifinalists South Korea before overcoming hosts Japan 2-0 in what proved to be their toughest pool-stage contest.
Striker Dilpreet Singh has been among the leading scorers with nine goals, putting him in joint second spot on the tournament’s goal-scoring chart. His fellow forward Abhishek and captain Harmanpreet Singh have eight goals each.
Indians will be without midfielder Raj Kumar Pal, who has been ruled out after sustaining a left thumb fracture during the team’s last pool match. His place in the squad will be taken by travelling reserve Nilakanta Sharma.
“It’s just unfortunate for Raj. At the same time, we have great experience that’s coming in. Nilakanta has been at the Olympics, World Cup. So, it’s a nice addition in terms of an experienced player coming in at an important time,” India’s chief coach Craig Fulton was quoted as saying by PTI news agency.
Pakistan, on the other hand, were on course to finish on top of Pool B but a narrow 4-5 defeat to Malaysia pushed them into second place and set up Thursday’s semifinal clash. In their other pool games, Pakistan registered wins over Thailand (9-0), Uzbekistan (5-1), China (3-0) and Oman (7-2).
Pakistan will rely on drag-flick specialist Sufiyan Khan, who is topping tournament’s goal-scoring charts with 11 goals. India and Pakistan have faced off 184 times since their first encounter at the 1956 Olympics final in Melbourne. Pakistan hold the edge in the overall head-to-head record with 82 wins to India’s 70, and 32 matches have been drawn.

India’s wait for an Asian Games volleyball medal continues after Pakistan loss

India’s hopes of ending a 40-year wait for a top-four finish in men’s volleyball at the Asian Games came to an end on Thursday, as Pakistan secured a straight-sets victory in the quarterfinals in Aichi-Nagoya at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Gymnasium.

Pakistan won 25-19, 25-23, 25-18 to move into the semifinals, while India’s campaign came to an end despite winning all three of their group-stage matches, including a thrilling win over Qatar.
The two sides stayed close early in the opening set, but Pakistan gradually took control through their stronger attacking play. Murad Khan was a constant threat as India struggled to convert their chances. Pakistan finished the first set with 17 successful spikes from 24 attempts, while India managed 11 from 29.
India showed resistance in the second set and were level at 13-13 and 16-16. However, Pakistan again found the crucial points late in the set. India saved one set point at 23-24, but Usman Faryad Ali finished it with a smash off the block.
Pakistan then started building more pressure in the third set, moving 3-0 ahead. Jerome Vinith responded with a powerful smash, but India could not sustain the fightback.
Pakistan’s attacking efficiency ultimately changed the game. They recorded 50 successful spikes from 83 attempts, while India managed only 33 from 81.
Jerome, who had been India’s leading attacker throughout the tournament, could not inspire a comeback as Pakistan closed out the match in straight sets.
This defeat extends India’s wait for a volleyball medal at the Asian Games, but Pakistan’s win helped them move into the top four in the competition for the first time in 64 years.
