Legendary Team India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has expressed his support to the families that are affected by the floods in Nepal. He also prayed for the safety of those who are awaiting news of their loved ones.

The floods wreaked havoc in Nepal, with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stating that 85 Indian nationals have been rescued and 290 are still uncontactable. Nepal has launched search, rescue, and relief operations after the floods, in which at least 359 people have lost their lives.

According to the MEA's latest update issued at 8 pm today, 63 workers of the Trishuli-I project and 21 people from Tamil Nadu have been rescued.

The 21 Tamil Nadu nationals had travelled to Nepal for the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, while the 63 rescued workers were associated with the Trishuli-I project.

The MEA said efforts were continuing to ascertain the whereabouts and ensure the safety of Indian nationals who remain uncontactable in the flood-affected areas.

The development comes as Nepal grapples with the aftermath of a major flash flood that struck the Rasuwa district on Wednesday morning, sending a powerful surge of water, sediment and boulders through the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river systems.

According to the latest update from Nepal's National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), 359 bodies have been recovered, while 910 people remain missing or out of contact.

What do Indians need to reach WTC 2025-27 final?

To reach a PCT of minimum 60 per cent, Indians would require another 72 points approximately from their remaining 7 Tests. It means that India would need at least 6 wins and 1 loss to reach a PCT of 65 per cent from remaining 7 games – 2 Tests away from home in New Zealand and 5 Tests at home vs Australia.

If Shubman Gill’s side can win all of their remaining 7 Tests, they will reach a PCT of 70.37 per cent and almost certain to make the final then. Bangladesh, on the other hand, have the fewest Tests remaining – 6 – in the current cycle.

They have a couple of Tests away from home in South Africa and 4 Tests at home against West Indies and England. If they can win 4 Tests with 2 draws, their PCT can improve to 66.67 while with 2 losses and 4 wins, the PCT will be 61.11.

Former champions Australia have the most Tests in the cycle remaining – 12. They will take on South Africa in 3 Tests away from home followed by 4 Tests at home against New Zealand and finally complete the cycle with 5-match series for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against India.

Pat Cummins-led side can reach more than 65 per cent PCT with 6 wins and 1 draw. With 7 wins and 1 draw, their PCT will rise to 70 per cent.

Defending champions South Africa have 10 Tests remaining in the cycle while 8 of them will be at home against Australia, Bangladesh and England. Their remaining 2 Tests will be away to Sri Lanka. With 6 wins and 1 draw, SA’s PCT will rise to 66.67 and with 7 wins it will be more than 70 per cent.

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur on Thursday said her team is not singling out any opponent in the Women's T20 Asia Cup and will instead focus on playing good cricket, while expecting a challenging tournament with the standard of Asian teams improving rapidly. The Asia Cup features India, Pakistan, defending champions Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, hosts UAE, Thailand, Hong Kong China, and Indonesia.

The ODI world champions India enter the Women's T20 Asia Cup as one of the favourites, but Harmanpreet played down the hype surrounding her team's much-anticipated clash against Pakistan on September 5. The Indian skipper said her team would not allow external factors to distract it.

"We are not putting any focus on one particular team, which is going to be tough for us. All the teams have been doing well and our focus is to play good cricket and not to take any team easily," Harmanpreet said at the captains' press conference ahead of the tournament, which begins here on Friday.

"Our main focus is just playing cricket, other than giving focus to the other impact of the game." Harmanpreet did not answer if she would shake hands with her Pakistani counterpart Fatima Sana. The India skipper said they are treating the continental tournament as an opportunity to test themselves under pressure and build on the lessons from their recent experiences.

"Asia Cup is a platform where you can really test yourself and put yourself under a lot of pressure to perform at a level which you expect a lot from your team," Harmanpreet said. "This tournament is very important for us as a team to do well. Especially all the teams, they are the ones in the last two-three years we have seen massive improvement. And whenever we are playing against them, they are not giving anything easy to us.

"This is going to be very challenging, but at the same time, our experience will help us." India had a disappointing T20 World Cup campaign, but Harmanpreet believes the experiences gained from past matches will stand the team in good stead.

"All the experience we have got from the past matches is going to help us, and hopefully we will play our best cricket and enjoy cricket here," she said. Asked about India's preparation for the hot and humid Dubai conditions, Harmanpreet said the team would use its training sessions and the matches preceding their opener to assess the conditions before finalising their combination.

"We just reached yesterday (Wednesday) and haven't seen the field yet. But tomorrow (Friday) when we train, even a good thing is that two teams are playing before us. So we will get to see a lot of things and then understand how the conditions are going to be. And then accordingly, we'll make the plan," she said.

Harmanpreet said packed stands, such as those witnessed during India's women's clash against Pakistan in Dubai in 2024, were a welcome sign for the sport. "As a cricketer, we always want to see packed stadiums. Fans are coming and supporting us. Hopefully, this Asia Cup, we have the same packed stadiums," she said.

Harmanpreet also backed the Indian squad amid questions raised over selection by former captain Anjum Chopra. "I don't know what you're talking about, but I think we have picked the best team and they have given very impressive performances. That's why they are here. I'm sure that whenever we go to the field, we'll play our best cricket," she said.

Pakistan captain Sana Fatima said they intend to play "fearless cricket". Sana, who became the first Pakistan woman to play in The Hundred for Birmingham Phoenix, said, "We just want to enjoy the match against India on September 5. T20 cricket is such that whoever plays better on the day wins."

"Whenever we play in Dubai, we are used to the conditions. We have players who can do well in these conditions. We have good batters as well; hopefully, they will express themselves." UAE captain Esha Oza said, "It's about enjoying what you do, it's not about trying to prove anything to anyone. We have trained hard, and it's about implementing those things."

The Indian women’s hockey team produced a stunning second-half comeback to defeat Germany 3-1 and secure fifth place at the FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup 2026 at the Wagener Stadium on Thursday. The victory marked India’s best finish at the Women’s Hockey World Cup since their fourth-place finish in the inaugural 1974 edition.

Posting on his X handle, Sreejesh also hailed the women’s team for their “great teamwork, fighting spirit and belief".

India entered the 5th/6th place classification match after losing only one game in the tournament, to the Netherlands. They also managed draws against higher-ranked teams, China, Australia and England.

Germany dominated large parts of the first half, keeping India’s attacking unit under pressure.

Both teams failed to break the deadlock in the opening two quarters, with Germany creating more chances and earning penalty corners, but India’s goalkeeper Bichu Devi and the defence stood firm.
