Skipper Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan are unbeaten at the crease.

Pakistan's Saim Ayub, Arafat Minhas, and Ahmed Daniyal have claimed one wicket each. Saad Masood, Sufiyan Muqeem, and Abrar Ahmed will continue their hunt for the first scalp.

Earlier, Team India's skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bat first.

Team India's in-form batsman Ishan Kishan said, "Representing India isn't just about being associated with the BCCI, it's always about something much bigger. There are so many expectations, so many plans in motion, and millions of people cheering for you. You feel that intense pride inside, even if you don't always show it externally. It really is a unique feeling. Even though we have a world-class squad with fantastic batters and bowlers, there is still that extra weight of pressure whenever you perform for the country. Cricket can change in an instant, you step out to bat, face one good ball, and the entire momentum of the match shifts. You have to be completely switched on, read the pitch, know what the team requires, and execute your plan. Especially on these kinds of surfaces, prioritising team goals over individual milestones is essential, and that's where our entire focus lies. It’s been a fantastic experience here overall. The local people have been incredibly warm and helpful, guiding us wherever we need to go, even despite the language barrier. When you're in a foreign country, seeing locals go out of their way to support you when it isn't even their job means a lot to us".

"As for the fans, sabse achha cheez yeh hai (the best part is) that no matter where we play around the world, Indian supporters show up in huge numbers and give us that extra cushion of backing. It feels like we start every game with a slight upper hand because of them. I'm deeply grateful to everyone who travels long distances to support us. Win or lose, their love is unconditional, they just want to cheer us on, keep us motivated, and ensure every player feels comfortable. That support truly means everything to us," he added.

“More medals are yet to come”: Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh believes India is on track to meet its Asiad target

Gonda (Uttar Pradesh) [India], October 3 (ANI): Former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh expressed confidence in India’s Asian Games campaign, saying more medals, including from wrestling, are still to come as the country looks to achieve its targeted tally.

“More medals are yet to come, medals from wrestling as well. India is on track to meet its target. Nations across the globe are striving for success… We are gradually moving forward and will certainly achieve the target we have set for ourselves," Brij Bhushan told ANI.

India made a strong start to the penultimate day of the Asian Games on Saturday, with 17-year-old Kumkum Mohod creating history by winning gold in the women’s individual recurve archery event.

Kumkum defeated South Korea’s Oh Yejin in a dramatic shoot-off after the final was tied 5-5, becoming the first Indian woman to win an individual recurve medal at the Asian Games.

Her gold came a day after she helped India secure its maiden Asian Games gold in the women’s recurve team event alongside Ankita Bhakat and Kirti Sharma. She also won silver in the mixed recurve team event with Dhiraj Bommadevara.

India entered Day 14 on the back of a six-gold haul on Friday, which lifted the country to fifth place in the medal standings with 76 medals, including 16 gold, 25 silver and 35 bronze.

The women’s hockey team defeated defending champions China 1-0 on Friday to win India’s first Asian Games gold in the sport since 1982 and also secure direct qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Indian boxing also enjoyed a highly successful campaign, with Lovlina Borgohain, Parveen Hooda and Ankush Panghal winning gold medals. Their victories took India’s boxing gold tally at the Games to three, while Priya Ghanghas, Kapil Pokhariya and Narender Berwal added bronze medals.

Wrestler Sujeet Kalkal also produced a remarkable comeback to win gold in the men’s 65kg freestyle category, overcoming a 2-9 deficit against Tajikistan’s Abdulmazhid Kudiev to seal a 10-9 victory in the final.

More wrestling medals remain in sight on Day 14, with Sagar Jaglan, Aman Sehrawat, Deepak Punia, Antim Panghal and Manisha Bhanwala among the Indian wrestlers in action.

India will also bid for gold in men’s cricket, with the team set to face arch-rivals Pakistan in the final, while the men’s hockey team will take on Malaysia in the gold medal match.

Recurve archers Dhiraj Bommadevara and Neeraj Chauhan will also be looking to add to India’s medal tally in the individual events as the Games enter their final stages. (ANI)

CCI reclaim Kanga League crown after 35 years

The Dr HD Kanga Cricket League’s matches on Friday witnessed intense competition in Division ‘A’, with Cricket Club of India (CCI) emerging champions after securing a better quotient (2.228) than Parsee Gymkhana (1.999). Both teams finished with 15 points from six matches.

After CCI’s in-form left-arm spinner Dhrumil Matkar (5-51) and pacer Irfan Umair (3-15) helped restrict hosts MIG CC to 131, opener Akhil Herwadkar’s 45 and Akash Parkar’s unbeaten 27 saw CCI declare at 132-4, earning a crucial first-innings lead and three points. At stumps, MIG were 9-1 in their second innings.

This is CCI’s fifth Kanga League title and first since 1991, when India’s 1983 World Cup-winning captain Sandeep Patil led their triumph. “It’s massive to learn that Sandeep sir, who is our Mumbai team mentor, led CCI to the Kanga League title previously. As CCI captain, it feels great to emulate his achievement. In the last few games, Dhrumil has been in very good rhythm and we were confident that he would give us wickets,” CCI skipper Akash Anand told mid-day.

CCI vice-chairman Mayank Kahandwala, who was part of the 1991 team, said: “History has repeated itself after nearly 35 years. I was fortunate to be a part of that Kanga League-winning team in 1991. Coming from behind to get outright victories in their last two matches is a great achievement by this CCI team.”

At Parsee Gymkhana, Aditya Tare’s 65-ball 84 helped the hosts declare at 241-9. Karnatak SC were bowled out for 235, with Siddhesh Gavande scoring 92. Left-arm spinner Harikesh Yadav claimed 7-84. “A couple of dropped chances didn’t let us win this game by a big margin of 80-90 runs. That would have helped us go ahead on quotient,” Parsee Gym head coach Vinayak Mane told mid-day.

Kumkum Mohod – The Quiet Teenager Who Visualised Her Way to Asian Games History

At 17, Kumkum Mohod is already learning that some of the biggest moments in sport are won long before the competition begins.

At Chugo Suo Park Arena, with an Asian Games gold medal and an Olympic dream hanging in the balance, the teenager stood up for the decisive shoot-off against South Korea’s Oh Ye-jin. The contest had finished 5-5. One arrow would decide everything.

Mohod had already seen this moment in her mind.

“I visualised a 10 before the shoot-off and have been practising visualising since the start of the Games,” she said.

Then she did exactly what she had imagined. A perfect 10 under immense pressure gave Mohod the gold and made her the first Indian woman to win an individual recurve title at the Asian Games. It also secured India a quota place for the LA 2028 Olympic Games.

For Mohod, however, the shoot-off was not an isolated moment of brilliance. It was the culmination of a process she had been following throughout the Games.

“I kept my focus on my own performance and not who I was playing,” she said.

Visualisation and breathing have become part of that process. The Indian archery team works on both during training, but Mohod also made sure to continue the routine at the competition venue.

“We have a session for visualisation and breathing training,” she explained. “We do it in training and at the ground we do this visualisation training. We do it every day here as well in the venue. I visualised that I had shot perfect 10s. This was a process.”

That process was tested repeatedly in the final.

Mohod trailed 1-3 before producing a perfect score to level the contest at 3-3. She then found herself 3-5 down, with the gold within reach of her Korean opponent. Once again, she refused to let the situation dictate her performance.

Another perfect score forced the shoot-off.

And when the moment arrived, Mohod delivered the 10 she had already seen in her mind.

The teenager’s personality away from the range is almost the complete opposite of the drama she produced on it. Quiet and reserved, she says she does not like to celebrate too much. There is, however, one small indulgence she is happy to make an exception for.

“I don’t like to celebrate much but I do like ice cream. Butterscotch.”

There are other glimpses into the life of a teenager who is still balancing her studies with a rapidly rising sporting career. Before archery took over, studies came naturally to her.

“I was quite good in studies,” she said. “Maths is my favourite subject.”

She also paints, and one of her favourite memories from the build-up to the Asian Games came during a group painting session at camp. The athletes painted a nature scene and presented it to their coach, Udham Singh.

Away from both books and the archery range, Mohod is much like any other teenager. She enjoys watching Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah and comedy shows, while her music preference is decidedly more reflective.

“I do love listening to slow melancholic songs,” she said.

But beneath the quiet personality is a teenager who has carried an enormous sporting dream for years.

“I used to dream of the Olympics as a child and today I got the quota. A dream come true moment.”

The Asian Games have already given Mohod three medals, gold in the women’s individual and team events and silver in the mixed team event. But the individual gold will carry a different weight.

It was history. It was an Olympic quota. And, perhaps most importantly, it was a moment she had already lived through in her imagination.

Then came the perfect 10.
