नितीश को हार्दिक पांड्या के रिप्लेसमेंट के तौर पर देखा जा रहा था, लेकिन वो खुद चोट से जूझ रहे हैं. उनकी इंजरी भी वही है जो हार्दिक पांड्या की है, लेफ्ट क्वाड्रिसेप्स इंजरी. वह अफगानिस्तान के खिलाफ वनडे सीरीज में चोटिल हुए थे। वह भी अभी CoE में हैं.

साई सुदर्शन

बाएं हाथ के बल्लेबाज साई सुदर्शन अभी सेंटर ऑफ एक्सीलेंस में हैं, उन्हें दाएं पैर में स्ट्रेस की समस्या है. चयनकर्ताओं को उम्मीद थी कि साई श्रीलंका दौरे के लिए फिट हो सकते हैं, इसलिए सब्जेक्ट टू फिटनेस के तहत उन्हें टीम में चुना गया था लेकिन अब वह इस दौरे से पूरी तरह बाहर हो गए हैं.

वरुण चक्रवर्ती

वरुण को IPL 2026 के दौरान चोट लगी थी, हालांकि चोट लगने के बाद भी उन्होंने गेंदबाजी की थी. इस पर कई सवाल भी खड़े हुए. इसके बाद इंग्लैंड के खिलाफ टी20 सीरीज के दौरान उनकी हैमस्ट्रिंग खिंच गई.

अशोक शर्मा को लोअर बैक स्ट्रेस फ्रैक्चर ऑफ रिब फ्रैक्चर हुआ है. उन्होंने हाल ही में जिम्बाब्वे के खिलाफ अपना अंतर्राष्ट्रीय डेब्यू किया था. उनके सिलेक्शन को लेकर सवाल उठे थे कि डोमेस्टिक में पर्याप्त मौके दिए बिना उन्हें इंटरनेशनल में ले आए. उन्हें अपनी पहली ही सीरीज में चोट लग गई, वह भी सेंटर ऑफ एक्सीलेंस में रिहैब कर रहे हैं.

रियान पराग

राजस्थान रॉयल्स के कप्तान रियान पराग भी चोट से जूझ रहे हैं. दाएं कंधे की सर्जरी के बाद उनकी रिकवरी सेंटर ऑफ एक्सीलेंस में हो रही है. उन्हें चोट के कारण टीम से भी बाहर होना पड़ा था.

सुयश शर्मा

सुयश पैटेलर टेंडिनोपैथी की समस्या से जूझ रहे हैं. उनके दोनों घुटने में समस्या आई है, उन्हें इंजेक्शन देकर घुटने की ताकत बढ़ाई जा रही है. वह भी बीसीसीआई सेंटर ऑफ एक्सीलेंस में रिकवर हो रहे हैं.

Basant Kumar Meghwal won a silver in men’s high jump event with a personal best effort to take India’s medal tally to two at the World Athletics U20 Championships here.

The 19-year-old from Anupgarh, a border town in the Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan, sailed over 2.21m, his lifetime best, to clinch the silver medal on the fourth and penultimate day of the championships on Saturday.

Algeria’s Younes Ayachi won the gold while Great Britain’s Otis Poole took the bronze. All the three medallists could only clear 2.21m but failed all their three attempts to sail over 2.24m.

The positions were thus decided on countback based on the number of attempts to clear the previous height.

Ayachi cleared 2.21m in his first jump, while Meghwal and Poole did the same in their second and third attempts respectively.

Earlier, Ashish Yadav had won a silver in the men’s javelin throw event to open India’s medal account on the third day.

Colombo [Sri Lanka], August 8 (ANI): Sri Lanka’s men’s white-ball captain Kusal Mendis was named the newly formed Sri Lankan Professional Cricketers’ Association (SLPCA) President.

The newly formed SLPCA was officially launched on Saturday.

The association, backed by prominent players including women’s captain Chamari Athapaththu and allrounder Wanindu Hasaranga, aims to serve as an independent and collective voice for professional cricketers in Sri Lanka.

“The formation of the SLPCA comes at a landmark time for Sri Lankan cricket, following a sustained period of positive progress and reform across the sport in the country, including the work of the game’s transformation committee to strengthen governance and modernise the domestic structure," a media release said as per Cricinfo.

“Alongside the governance reforms and transformation work already underway, having a genuine, organised player voice is another important step toward a modern, collaborative game that is aligned with international best practice," the release added.

The launch comes amid a period of significant administrative upheaval in Sri Lankan cricket, with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) undergoing a major reform process under a temporary, government-appointed Cricket Transformation Committee.

The formation of the players’ association is the latest step towards modernising the game in the country, with a new constitution also in the works.

The SLPCA is directly affiliated with the World Cricketers’ Association (WCA), the global federation representing professional cricketers.

The affiliation gives Sri Lankan players access to the WCA’s international programmes, welfare and support systems, and global player-advocacy networks, areas where they have historically lacked a structured presence.

“We’re proud to have established SPCA to represent Sri Lanka’s players at this important time, and we look forward to working constructively and collaboratively with Sri Lanka Cricket, the Transformation Committee, and other stakeholders as cricket continues to grow," Kusal, as SPCA president, said. Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], August 8 (ANI): Commonwealth Games 2026 gold medallist Arundhati Choudhary hopes her maiden CWG gold will inspire young athletes in Rajasthan to pursue sports and challenge long-standing perceptions about the state’s sporting talent.

Kota-born Arundhati produced a dominant display in the women’s 70kg final, defeating England’s Chantelle Reid 5-0 by unanimous decision to secure one of India’s seven boxing gold medals at the Games.

Speaking to ANI, Arundhati said her CWG gold medal could challenge stereotypes about Rajasthan’s sporting talent and inspire young athletes from the state to pursue sports and achieve success.

“When the name of Rajasthan is mentioned, everyone thinks that they are very weak, their players are not so good, they will not perform well. But now I feel that this gold of mine will become a very big motivation for the children of Rajasthan to move forward and people from other states will also remain quiet thinking that there is a Commonwealth Gold here too," she said.

Arundhati Choudhary expressed pride in winning gold at her maiden Commonwealth Games medal. She credited her father for guiding her towards boxing and coach Ashok Gautam for helping shape her career after she took up the sport in 2016.

“I am feeling very proud that this was my first Commonwealth Games and I got gold in the very first games, so it is a very good thing. I had a bit of a fighting nature from the beginning, and it was a bit wrong that such anger and fighting in a child is not good, but my father showed the right path, and he put me into boxing. Although being from Kota, he wanted me to do IIT, but somewhere he felt that maybe boxing would be right for me because of my nature. So in 2016, I started boxing and under the guidance of coach Ashok Gautam, I walked on that path and made my career in boxing," she said.

India scripted history by delivering the greatest boxing performance by any nation in Commonwealth Games history, topping the medal standings with seven gold and three silver medals. The 10-medal haul surpassed the previous record of six boxing gold medals jointly held by England (1934 and 2018) and Canada (1986).

Apart from Arundhati, India’s gold medals came through Sachin Siwach, Jaismine Lamboria, Preeti Pawar, Sakshi Chaudhary, Priya Ghanghas and Ankush Panghal. Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain, Narender Berwal and Jadumani Singh added silver medals to complete the country’s historic tally. (ANI)
