Stubbs shines while Harrison strikes in The Hundred

Tristan Stubbs carried Southern Brave’s chase, while Calvin Harrison impressed with the ball at The Oval.

Stubbs struck an unbeaten half-century for Southern Brave, but Manchester Super Giants defended 149 to secure a 10-run win in Southampton.

The Proteas batter held Brave’s chase together after they slipped to 54-3. He shared a 40-run stand with Marcus Stoinis before finishing on 53 from 38 balls, with one four and three sixes.

David Miller made seven from eight deliveries before Leus du Plooy caught him off Michael Bracewell. Stubbs had earlier run out Du Plooy for one as the Super Giants lost eight wickets for 30 runs after an opening stand of 119.

Heinrich Klaasen fell for a four-ball duck, but contributed in the field by catching Jamie Smith for 26. Manchester restricted Brave to 139-6, keeping their campaign alive and ending the hosts’ knockout hopes.

At The Oval, Durban-born Calvin Harrison played his part in Trent Rockets’ six-wicket victory over MI London. The leg-spinner removed Will Jacks with a return catch and conceded only 11 runs from his 10 balls.

Jacks’ dismissal left MI London 70-3 before Sam Curran’s 72 lifted the hosts to 147-7. Mitchell Santner then struck an unbeaten 52 from 23 balls as the Rockets reached their target with 10 deliveries remaining and secured a place in the knockout stage.
