Wales wise up to fire shots at Boks

Forwards coach Danny Wilson says Wales are relishing the challenge of Saturday’s duel with the Springboks, if only to improve on last year’s “horrible scoreline” in Cardiff.

The teams clash at Kings Park in round three of the Nations Championship, and Wilson expects the Boks to provide the ultimate test for a Welsh side looking to rebound from last week’s defeat in Argentina.

“From a lineout point of view, we want to be able to use that as a weapon. But we’ve got to be clever about it. Same with dealing with their lineout, and the scrum.”

Wilson insists the Welsh must improve on the 73-0 defeat suffered against the Boks at the Principality Stadium last November.

“There were a load of contributing factors that led to a horrible scoreline,” he said. “We definitely want to and need to improve on that.

“But at the same time, we’re aware of the challenge we have ahead of us. We showed some progressions in recent games.

“There were some positive parts but we’ll have to be on it against a side that can hurt you very quickly.”

WALES STAR: No harder Test than Boks

Wilson drew encouragement from Scotland’s display in last week’s 42-28 defeat to Rassie Erasmus’ men at Loftus.

“The test of playing South Africa for 80 minutes is a physical one. Going toe-to-toe with them and being able to fire shots is important for us,” he said.

“I think Scotland’s performance was impressive. They were in that game up until the latter stages. You also saw the Springboks’ depth.

“That’s what we’re growing at the moment. We need to grow players. You’re starting to see that a bit.”

Wilson believes Wales have made strides in key areas, but says they must improve their control of territory and momentum after slipping up against Los Pumas.

“Getting into the 22 and taking opportunities … We’ve been effective. It’s how you increase those opportunities. It’s how you manage and exit the middle third.”

Durban City FC have officially unveiled Umbro as the club’s new technical partner on a three-season deal ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

The agreement will see Umbro supply official match kits for the men’s and women’s teams, as well as training wear, travel apparel and supporter merchandise. The partnership will cover all domestic competitions and the CAF Confederation Cup.

DURBAN CITY FC PARTNER UP WITH UMBRO

The announcement follows a memorable 2025/26 season for Durban City. The KwaZulu-Natal club finished inside the Betway Premiership top eight and lifted the 2026 Nedbank Cup, becoming the first team from the province in 17 years to win the competition.

That success also secured qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup, where Durban City will represent South Africa next season.

KADODIA WELCOMES UMBRO

Durban City FC chief executive Younus Kadodia welcomed the partnership and believes it will support the club’s ambitions on and off the field.

As part of the agreement, Umbro will provide official match kits, training gear and travel apparel for both the men’s and women’s teams.

Supporters will also have access to a range of official merchandise, including caps, hoodies, T-shirts and scarves throughout the three-year partnership.

The deal marks another significant milestone for Durban City FC as the club continues its rapid rise following an impressive debut season in the Betway Premiership.

Meanwhile, the club recently announced the appointment of former Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef.
