Mexican Quiñones Nominated for Ballon d'Or

Julián Quiñones has made history as the second Mexican player ever nominated for the Ballon d'Or, following in the footsteps of retired goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa.

The 29-year-old forward, who plays for both Mexico's national team and Saudi Pro League club Al-Qadsiah, earned his nomination after a remarkable season. Quiñones scored 33 goals in 31 appearances in the Saudi Pro League, winning the Golden Boot ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo, and added four goals in the 2026 World Cup where Mexico served as co-host. amunra.qpon

Quiñones, who switched his international allegiance from Colombia to Mexico in 2023, scored Mexico's first goal of the tournament against South Africa, becoming the first CONCACAF player to achieve this feat. His four World Cup goals tied a Mexican national record previously held by Luis Hernandez and Javier Hernandez. The Ballon d'Or winner will be announced on October 26, 2026, at the London Palladium in England.
