Trabzonspor Officially Open Mohamed Salah Transfer Talks

Trabzonspor have officially opened negotiations to sign Egypt captain Mohamed Salah, the Turkish club announced on Tuesday.

The Süper Lig side issued a brief public announcement confirming their first formal move for the 34-year-old forward.

So far, reports have placed Trabzonspor’s proposal at approximately €17 million per season over two years in a package that includes bonuses, while sponsors would reportedly cover part of the cost.

On Saturday, KingFut reported that Trabzonspor had sent draft contractual documents to the Egyptian’s agent, Ramy Abbas, as the parties attempted to complete the deal this week.

Several Turkish outlets subsequently claimed that Salah had accepted the offer and could travel to Trabzon on Wednesday.

Trabzonspor’s confirmation comes after club president Ertuğrul Doğan played down reports linking the club with Salah.

Doğan initially described claims surrounding the transfer as untrue. He then denied that an agreement or flight had been arranged but declined to reveal whether he had spoken directly with the forward.

Trabzonspor entered the race after talks between Salah and Beşiktaş stalled over financial and contractual terms. The Istanbul club declined to improve its final proposal but left the offer available.

Doha, Qatar: Alkrar (Azadi) claimed his first victory at the highest level by winning the Gr.1 (PA) Al Rayyan Cup while HM Alchahine (Al Mourtajez) claimed the Gr.1 (PA) Doha Cup (Prix Manganate) in thrilling action at Deauville in France yesterday.

Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) chairman Hamad bin Abdulrahman Al Attiya and QREC Board Member Khalifa bin Mohammed Al Attiyah presented the trophies for the QREC-sponsored Al Rayyan Cup (Prix Kesberoy) and Doha Cup (Prix Manganate).

Their presentation crowned a stellar afternoon of Group 1 PA action across the two contests staged at Deauville.

Alkrar remains unbeaten

Alkrar (Azadi), the unbeaten three-year-old colt - bred by Al Wasmiyah Racing - claimed his first victory at the highest level by winning the Gr.1 (PA) Al Rayyan Cup – Prix Kesberoy over 2000m.

The race was contested by a field of four runners, comprising three colts and one filly. The race was reserved for three-year-old Purebred Arabians.

Trained by François Rohaut, ridden by Christophe Soumillon and owned and bred by Al Wasmiyah Racing, the homebred colt maintained his perfect record with a determined performance.QREC Chairman Hamad bin Abdulrahman Al Attiya presented the trophies to the connections of Alkrar, winners of the Gr.1 Al Rayyan Cup.

Alkrar came into the race unbeaten in two previous starts. He made a successful debut over 1600m at La Teste, winning comfortably, before confirming his potential on his second appearance by taking a Gr.3 (PA) contest over 1900m at the same racecourse. His victory at Deauville therefore marked his third success from three starts and his first at Gr.1 (PA) level.

Alkrar broke very well from the stalls but was immediately taken back by Christophe Soumillon to settle in third position, just behind Balsam (Mister Ginoux). Zahim (Al Mamun Monlau) led the field in a single-file formation, followed by Balsam in second, Alkrar in third, and Npedor De Bozouls at the rear.

With the runners travelling at an even tempo, the order remained unchanged throughout most of the race. Leaving the final turn, Christophe Soumillon made an early move aboard Alkrar and quickly sent him forward to join Balsam at the head of the field. The two runners soon pulled clear of the other runners, but Balsam continued to offer strong resistance as they approached the final 200m. In a thrilling finish, Alkrar found something extra under pressure and gradually gained the advantage, eventually prevailing by three-quarters of a length. Balsam finished second, with Zahim taking third.

HM Alchahine claims fourth Gr.1 victory

HM Alchahine, Bred by H. Mousli and Mme N. Mousalli, claimed the fourth Gr.1 (PA) victory of his career by winning the Gr.1 (PA) Doha Cup over 2000m. The race was reserved for four-year-old and older Purebred Arabians and attracted a strong field of seven runners. Trained by Mme Jean-François Bernard, ridden by Cristian Demuro, and owned by Helal Alalawi, HM Alchahine produced an impressive turn of foot to win once again at the highest level.

The six-year-old colt came into the race following an excellent seasonal reappearance at La Teste the previous month, when he finished third in the Gr.2 (PA) Prix Deryan over 1900m.

As is often the case, HM Alchahine was settled at the rear of the field during the early stages. Romeo At (Af Al Buraq) immediately took the lead and set a good tempo, with Al Theeb racing in second position and Laffan in third.

Leaving the final turn, Romeo At kicked clear and lifted the pace. Al Theeb was quickly placed under pressure and was unable to follow the leader’s acceleration. However, HM Alchahine began to make rapid progress on the far outside.

HM Alchahine produced a devastating turn of foot to sweep past the entire field. Only Laffan was able to give chase, but he could not match the winner’s acceleration. HM Alchahine continued strongly to win by one and a half lengths, with Laffan finishing second and Romeo At holding on for third. Bred by H. Mousli and Mme N. Mousalli, HM Alchahine is out of Al Chyhanah.

Doha, Qatar: Qatar are confident of continuing their encouraging start at the World Cup as they face co-hosts Canada in an intriguing Group B clash in Vancouver.

The match kicks off at BC Place Vancouver Stadium early Friday (1am Qatar time), with Switzerland taking on Bosnia and Herzegovina three hours earlier in Los Angeles in the other group fixture.

With all four teams locked on one point and identical goal records after the opening round, Group B remains wide open.

Canada, ranked 32nd in the FIFA rankings, will start as favourites in front of their home fans, but Qatar, currently 49th, head into the contest buoyed by the character they showed in rescuing a dramatic draw against group favourites Switzerland.

Both sides earned their first-ever World Cup points through late equalisers and are now chasing a landmark first victory on football’s biggest stage and boost their chances of a spot in the knockout stage.

Al Annabi looked destined for another World Cup defeat after Breel Embolo’s first-half penalty gave Switzerland the lead in California. The Swiss dominated proceedings forcing Qatar goalkeeper Mahmoud Abunada into a string of vital saves.

Qatar stayed disciplined and resilient before Boualem Khoukhi’s late pressure forced Miro Muheim into a stoppage-time own goal, snatching a precious point and breathing fresh belief into Julen Lopetegui’s side.

“The next match will be the most difficult because it is against Canada, one of the host countries, and they will be playing in front of their fans,” Lopetegui said.

Midfielder Karim Boudiaf echoed his coach's assessment, acknowledging both the challenge and the opportunity that await Al Annabi in Vancouver.

"We fully understand the importance of this match for us and know it will be an important stage in our tournament journey," Boudiaf said.

"We know very well that the match will not be easy at all. The Canada team has quality players and will be playing on their home soil and in front of their fans, which gives them extra motivation. But we also have great ambition and determination to deliver our best and achieve a positive result."

For striker Almoez Ali, Qatar’s all-time leading scorer, the result meant more than avoiding defeat.

“That match is behind us now, but the point we earned has given us great confidence and extra motivation to keep working and focus on what lies ahead,” he said.

Abunada, whose saves repeatedly frustrated the Swiss attack, believes Qatar have the quality and experience to continue competing against elite opposition.

“We are capable of delivering what satisfies expectations in this second participation in the World Cup, especially since many of the players have the experience and ability to play against big teams with high quality,” the goalkeeper said.Qatar's Jassim Gaber trains with teammates ahead of the match against Canada.

Veteran defender Khoukhi also expects improvement.

“We have two very difficult matches ahead of us against Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and InshaAllah, we will be better than in the first match,” he said.

For Qatar, who left their home World Cup in 2022 without a point, the transformation has already begun. One point may not have changed perceptions overnight, but it has restored confidence and given them a genuine opportunity to push for a place in the knockout rounds.

Standing in their way are a Canadian side equally determined to seize control of the group.

The co-hosts drew 1-1 with Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto and will again enjoy strong backing from a passionate home crowd in Vancouver.

Coach Jesse Marsch’s side have made no secret of their ambitions.

“We want to top the group. The focus has never changed for us,” defender Joel Waterman said.

“It’s a big game to beat Qatar and then we’ve got to try and beat Switzerland as well. We’re going to try and pick up the six points and go on to the next round.”

Canada’s attacking threat is spearheaded by Jonathan David, the nation’s all-time leading scorer, while Cyle Larin announced his arrival with the equaliser in the opening match.

Much attention, however, remains on captain Alphonso Davies, whose availability is uncertain as he continues his recovery from a hamstring problem.
