Thousands pay tribute to Italian football legend Baresi

Milan, Italy: Thousands of people gathered outside a Milan church Tuesday to pay tribute to Italian football great Franco Baresi, who died last week aged 66.

Regarded as one of the greatest sweepers in football history, a funeral service for the former AC Milan captain was held at Milan's Sant'Ambrogio Basilica. blablasex.es

Former teammates Paolo Maldini, Roberto Baggio, Alessandro Costacurta were among many football stars and AC Milan figures in attendance.

Outside mourners sang chants and waved red-and-black AC Milan flags, as well as shirts bearing Baresi's iconic number six.

A World Cup winner with Italy in 1982 and a finalist at the 1994 World Cup, Baresi skippered AC Milan in the 1980s and 1990s when they won three European Cups and six Italian league titles.

He retired in 1997 after 719 matches with the Rossoneri, a record surpassed only by Maldini.

The club did not specify the cause of his death.

He had undergone surgery in August 2025 to remove a lung nodule.

أعلن الاتحاد الدولي لكرة القدم فيفا عن شراكته مع جمعية القلب الأمريكية (AHA)، لتعليم الزوار في مواقع مهرجان المشجعين لبطولة كأس العالم 2026، كيفية التعرف على حالات السكتة القلبية وممارسة الإنعاش القلبي الرئوي.

وقال فيفا في بيانه إنه في كأس العالم FIFA 2026، تمنح الجماهير فرصة التحول إلى منقذين، إذ يتعاون قسم فيفا الطبي مع جمعية القلب الأمريكية (AHA) لتمكين المشجعين من التعرف على السكتة القلبية، والتدرب على الإنعاش القلبي الرئوي باليدين فقط، وفهم كيف يمكن للتدخل الفوري أن يساعد في إنقاذ الأرواح.

وأوضح البيان أنه خلال البطولة، تتواجد وحدة الإنعاش القلبي الرئوي المتنقلة التابعة لمبادرة أمة منقذي الأرواح لجمعية القلب الأمريكية في مواقع مهرجان المشجعين FIFA Fan Festival في أتلانتا بولاية جورجيا، ودالاس بولاية تكساس، وفيلادلفيا بولاية بنسلفانيا، مستقبلة آلاف المشجعين من مختلف أنحاء العالم خلال احتفالات البطولة.

كما حضرت الوحدة أيضا في منطقة المشجعين في برونكس، نيويورك/نيوجيرسي.

وكانت أول حملة أطلقها فيفا للترويج لصحة القلب قد انطلقت في كأس العالم للسيدات أستراليا ونيوزيلندا 2023، بالشراكة مع منظمة Heartbeat of Football ومقرها أستراليا.

وقد استكمل عمل فيفالاحقا من خلال عدد من الاتحادات القارية والاتحادات الوطنية الأعضاء، عبر حملات رائعة للإنعاش القلبي الرئوي بهدف رفع مستوى الوعي العالمي بأهمية هذا الإجراء.
وفي عام 2025، أطلق فيفا مبادرته الصحية Heart Heroes United من خلال فيديو توعوي يعلم الشباب كيفية التصرف إذا شاهدوا شخصا يتعرض لسكتة قلبية، كما عمم برنامجا للتوعية بصحة القلب على جميع الاتحادات الوطنية الأعضاء الـ211 المنضوية تحت مظلة فيفا.

Doha, Qatar: Qatar’s elite referees underwent physical fitness tests conducted by the Qatar Football Association (QFA) at the Aspire Academy as part of the preparation program ahead of the new season, with the participation of 61 referees.

The tests precede the annual preparatory camp for elite referees scheduled from August 7 to 18, which includes technical lectures, analysis of refereeing cases and practical applications on the field.

The tests were attended by all the referees, with the exception of the international refereeing team that officiated at FIFA World Cup 2026 comprising Abdulrahman Al Jassim, Talib Salem, Saud Ahmed and Khamis Al Marri. The quartet will however undergo physical fitness tests during the referees’ preparatory camp, which precedes the start of Doha Bank Stars League.

Hani Taleb Balan, Chairman of the Referees’ Committee, attended the fitness tests, along with Valentin Ivanov, technical expert at the refereeing department of QFA. The tests were supervised by Banjar Al Dosari, a fitness instructor at FIFA and Khamis Al Kuwari, an instructor at the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), with the support of fitness trainers of the refereeing department.

The referees had begun their physical conditioning program on June 25 as part of a five-week plan aimed at reaching the required readiness before the start of the new season.

The Referees’ Committee, through its preparatory programme seeks to equip referees in the best possible way, in line with the requirements of the new season, and to enhance the quality of refereeing performance in various competitions of Qatar Football Association, most notably the Doha Bank Stars League.

In a related development, the QFA’s Refereeing Department will hold a series of meetings with club representatives from August 8 to 17. These meetings will review and explain the new amendments to the Laws of the Game and address any club inquiries, ensuring a unified understanding and application of the changes before the start of the new season.

These initiatives reflect QFA’s commitment to developing the refereeing system and preparing referees and clubs for the new season, keeping pace with the latest updates and amendments to the Laws of the Game.

DOHA: Qatar face a crucial Group B showdown against Canada as both sides seek their first victory of the FIFA World Cup 2026. Al Annabi opened their campaign with a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Switzerland, while Canada were also held to a 1-1 draw by Bosnia and Herzegovina, leaving all qualification scenarios firmly in play heading into the second round of matches.
The stakes increased after Switzerland edged Bosnia and Herzegovina 4-1 to move to the top of Group B with four points from two matches.
A victory for Qatar would lift Julen Lopetegui's side to four points and draw them level with the Swiss ahead of the final group-stage fixtures, while defeat would leave the Asian champions facing a difficult task in their bid to reach the knockout rounds.
